Origin and history

The Saint-Saturnin church of Souvigny-de-Touraine, classified as a Historical Monument, has a typical 12th century facade, marked by a door in the middle of a two-roller hanger. This first roll rests on pilasters flanked by columnettes, while the nave, extended by a span of choir, supports a bell tower. The dogif cross, with capitals decorated with monstrous or plant motifs, illustrates late Romanesque art.

In the 15th century, a side chapel was added to the southern wall of the nave, reflecting the Gothic architectural evolutions of the period. The polygonal abside, rebuilt in the 17th century, has a false plaster vault, showing Baroque adaptations. The building, a communal property since its inscription in 1948, retains protected elements such as its Romanesque structure and its later additions.

The church's location, at 4 Ter Rue Nationale (37530), corresponds to Insee 37252, in the Indre-et-Loire department. Its state of conservation and its openness to the public are not specified in available sources, but its listing as Historic Monuments underscores its regional heritage importance.
