Origin and history
Saint-Théodule de Thyez Church is a Catholic religious building located in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built on the site of an older sanctuary, it probably dates back to the 12th-11th centuries. The parish was then under the influence of the Benedictines of Contamine-sur-Arve, demonstrating its historical and religious importance in the region.
The church is distinguished by its steeple-porch, a notable architectural characteristic. It also houses a 380 kg bronze bell, dated 1473, which is a remarkable heritage element. The building is under the patronage of Theodore d'Octodie, the first bishop of Sion, emphasizing its anchor in local religious history.
Although the sources do not specify subsequent transformations, the church remains a testimony of medieval religious architecture in Savoy. Its history is linked to that of the Benedictine community, which played a central role in the spiritual and social organization of the region during the Middle Ages.
