Origin and history
The Saint-Valentin-de-Rome church of Autricourt is a Catholic religious building located in the department of the Gold Coast, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Its architectural history extends from the 15th to the 18th century, with a bedside dating from the end of the 15th century, while the first five spans of the nave, the vestibule and the facade were erected in 1786 by architect Pierre-Jean Guillemot. This mix of styles reflects the artistic and technical changes that occurred between the late Middle Ages and the modern period.
The monument is singularized by its choir and bedside, considered remarkable, as well as by liturgical furniture inscribed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage, including an altar, a tabernacle, a choir fence, baptismal fonts and a pulpit. Classified as historical monuments in 1914 – excluding its façade and bell tower – the church illustrates the importance of rural religious heritage in France. Today it remains the property of the municipality of Autricourt, testifying to its anchoring in local life for centuries.
The partial protection of the building in 1914 underscores its heritage value, although parts such as the façade and the bell tower are excluded. This distinction may reflect later changes or targeted conservation choices. The precise address, 5 Street Behind the Church, and its Insee code (21034) confirm its integration into the urban and administrative fabric of Autricourt, a village marked by its medieval and modern heritage.
