Origin and history
The church Saint-Victor de Poiseul-la-Ville-et-Laperrière, located in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, presents a composite architecture reflecting several epochs. Its oldest parts date back to the 12th century, while the three arched porch and transept chapels date from the late 14th century. The Gothic choir is part of this medieval period, with additions until the 16th century. The bell tower, for its part, is a more recent construction, erected in 1860 at the cross of the transept.
The building underwent major changes in the 18th century, partially changing its original structure. These transformations have contributed to its present appearance, mixing medieval and classical elements. The church has been included in the inventory of historic monuments since 17 June 1947, recognizing its heritage value. His liturgical furniture, including a statuary from the 14th to the 16th centuries (like a Virgin with the Child or a Saint Victor of Damascus), is also classified, highlighting his rich artistic heritage.
The church plan follows a Latin cross, typical of medieval religious buildings, with a nave with a flat and wooded ceiling. Two side chapels, added between the 14th and 16th centuries, opened on the choir. The porch, characteristic of the late 14th century, precedes the main entrance, while two other doors give access to the sacristy and adjacent cemetery. These architectural elements reflect the stylistic and functional evolutions of the building over the centuries.
Owned by the commune, the church Saint-Victor remains an active place of worship while constituting a material testimony of the religious and artistic history of Burgundy. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments guarantees the preservation of its unique characteristics, from the woodwork of the choir to the classified sculptures, through its baptismal stone tank. These elements make it a local and national heritage, anchored in the Châtillonnais landscape.
