Origin and history

The Saint-Vigor church of Saint-Vigor-d'Ymonville, located in the Seine-Maritime department in Normandy, is a building whose origins date back to the second half of the 11th century. From this early period, only the entrance porch, located on the west façade, remains. This vestige bears witness to Norman Romanesque architecture, characteristic of the religious constructions of the time.

During the 15th and 16th centuries, the church underwent major architectural changes. The nave has been completely rebuilt and expanded by the addition of low-sides, reflecting the stylistic evolutions and liturgical needs of this period. These transformations profoundly altered the original aspect of the building, while enriching its historical heritage.

Saint-Vigor Church was officially recognized for its heritage value by its inscription as historic monuments on March 11, 1933. This legal protection underlines its importance in the architectural and religious landscape of the region. The monument, owned by the commune, remains a testimony to the artistic and cultural evolutions of Normandy over the centuries.
