Origin and history
The Church of Saint Vincent and Saint Sebastian, located in the centre of the village of Bullion (Yvelines), is a religious building built over centuries, from the 11th to the 16th century. It is located along Rue Saint-Vincent, on the D132 departmental road between Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines and Bonnelles. Its architecture reflects these successive periods, with an initial nave of the eleventh century, a northern collateral added before the end of the same century, and a south collateral rebuilt in the fourteenth century. The choir and the side chapels date from the early 16th century, when murals (dated 1542) were made, although they are now invisible.
The monument was listed as historic monuments by order of 13 July 1962, thus recognizing its heritage value. Among its remarkable elements are the glass windows offered in 1629 by Claude de Bullion, still present in the nineteenth century, as well as a porch added in the seventeenth century and a sacristy built in 1732. The church cemetery was transferred in 1811, marking an evolution in the use of spaces around the building. Saint Sebastian, second patron saint of the church, shares this dedication with Saint Vincent, perhaps reflecting local traditions or symbolic protections.
The parish of Bullion was attested as early as 1061, highlighting the former Christian settlement in the region. The building, owned by the municipality, preserves traces of its medieval and modern history, as evidenced by its architectural changes and interior decorations. Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Mérimée base, confirm its current address at 67 rue des Tilleuls, as well as its Insee code (78120), attached to the Yvelines department and to the Île-de-France region.
