Origin and history
Saint-Yves de La Roche-Maurice is a historic monument classified since 1916, characterized by a three-nave structure. The central nave and the choir keep vaults of painted wood, a rare testimony of religious art of the 15th and 17th centuries. The jube, supported by the pillars of the choir, is extended by two dais housing statues, while the walls of the nave are constructed of slate schist monoliths, a material typical of the region.
The funeral chapel, added in 1639, extends parallel to the western facade. Although built in the 17th century, it has stylistic features of the 16th century, illustrating an architectural transition. The ensemble, including the church and chapel (cadastre A 71, 864), belongs to the commune and reflects the local heritage importance.
Ranking as Historic Monument in 1916 highlights the artistic and historical value of the site. The paintings of the vault, the carved jube and the funeral chapel are a representative example of Breton religious heritage, mixing medieval and classical influences. The location at La Roche-Maurice (Finistère) and its precise address (4 Place de l'Église) facilitate access to it, despite a cartographic accuracy deemed mediocre (level 5/10).
