Origin and history

The Sainte-Anne church of L-Etang-la-Ville, located in the Yvelines in Île-de-France, is a religious building dating back to the 12th century. His choir, built at that time, bears witness to his seniority. The traditional church orientation, with a nave ending in a flat bedside, is characteristic of Romanesque constructions. A notable stained glass window depicts the Virgin under the protection of Saint Anne, patron saint of the church, adding a symbolic dimension to the building.

In the 15th century, Blaise Séguier, lord of the city, added a gothic seigneurial chapel on the north side of the choir. This project reflects the influence of local noble families on the religious architecture of the time. The nave was rebuilt in the 16th century, as was the vault of the choir, marking an important renovation phase. A south collateral was added in the 17th century, while the west facade was redone in 1888, illustrating the successive adaptations of the building to the needs and tastes of different eras.

The Sainte-Anne church was listed as historic monuments by order of 19 July 1926, thereby recognizing its heritage value. The rectory, rebuilt in the 17th century, completes this historical ensemble. Today, the church still serves as a parish place of worship under the name of St.Anne, perpetuating its central role in the religious and community life of the city.
