Origin and history

The Sainte-Catherine de Roquiague Church is a religious monument located in the commune of the same name in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or the architectural or historical details that might characterize it. Both rural and Roquiague churches traditionally played a central role in the lives of local communities.

In New Aquitaine, these buildings were often used as places of worship, assembly and social landmarks for the inhabitants. Their construction and maintenance generally reflected the collective organization and resources available in the surrounding villages.
