Church: Order of 17 March 1916
Origin and history
The Sainte-Geneviève de Barcy Church is a religious building located in the municipality of Barcy, Seine-et-Marne (department 77), in the Île-de-France region. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 17 March 1916, it now belongs to the commune and remains a symbol of the local architectural and spiritual heritage. Its exact location, 9001 Rue du Curé, reflects its historical anchoring in the urban fabric of Barcy, although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10).
Medieval churches like Sainte-Geneviève played a central role in the life of rural or semi-rural communities in Île-de-France. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for social, political and even economic events. At a time when religion structured daily life, these buildings embodied both collective faith and local identity. Their preservation, like that of Barcy, allows today to understand the organization and priorities of past societies.
