Origin and history

Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Pécy Church is a Catholic religious building located in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it embodies the religious architecture of this period, marked by late Gothic influences and renaissance. The village of Pécy, like many rural localities in the region, was then organized around its church, the central place of community and spiritual life.

The church bell tower was classified as historic monuments by order of 12 August 1909, recognizing its exceptional heritage value. Later, in 1969, the rest of the building was included in the inventory of historical monuments, ensuring its protection and preservation. These measures reflect the cultural and architectural importance of this monument, typical of the rural churches of Île-de-France.

The church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine now belongs to the municipality of Pécy, which manages it. Although the sources do not specify its current accessibility, this type of monument historically served as a place of worship, assembly and sometimes reception for the inhabitants. Rural churches like this played a key role in the social and religious structure of villages, especially in the 15th and 16th centuries, periods of transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
