Origin and history
The church Saints-Gervais-et-Protais de Jaulnay, located in the department of Indre-et-Loire, is a religious building built homogeneously between the second half of the 15th century and the first half of the 16th century. Its architecture reflects the stylistic features of this period of transition between the flamboyant Gothic and the early Renaissance. The west façade, pierced by a door in a basket handle surmounted by a braid, illustrates this mixture of influences. Inside, the nave is flanked to the south by a seigneurial chapel, while in the north, another chapel occupies the ground floor of the bell tower, emphasizing the importance of local noble families in parish life.
The choir, finished with a flat bedside, and the bell tower — a tower supported by foothills with an octagonal arrow — testify to a careful construction, probably financed by the village community and the local lords. The building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of August 8, 1962, now belongs to the commune of Jaulnay. Its state of conservation and its openness to the public are not specified in available sources, but its registration attests to its heritage value.
The location of the church, 4 Church Square in Jaulnay (37120), is documented with an accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10), suggesting minor uncertainties about its exact location. The photographs available, such as that of Arcyon37 under Creative Commons license, however, make it possible to appreciate its exterior architecture. No information is provided on any contemporary uses (visits, rentals, accommodation) or materials used, apart from visible structural elements (buttress, octagonal arrow).
