The old shop in Les Allées, in full (Box BC 55): by order of 23 October 2012
Origin and history
The former Shop aux Allées, located in the town of Arras (Hauts-de-France), was built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, more precisely in 1775, as evidenced by the cartridge of the pediment of its monumental gate. Originally intended for the storage of fodder, this building was built in a military context, integrated into the Drive des Allées, north of the city. Its architecture, marked by gently sloping ramps (disappeared in 1901), combined functionality and aesthetics, with an internal wooden structure creating imposing interior volumes.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 23 October 2012, the Aisles store is now isolated from its original military setting, but retains a striking presence thanks to its facade and monumental door. Owned by the municipality of Arras, it illustrates the logistical legacy of the 18th century garrisons, while offering a remarkable example of a strategic utility construction. Its classification protects the entire building (Cadastre BC 55), highlighting its heritage value.
The location of the monument, although specified (1 Bis Rue Sainte-Claire), is assessed as poor in terms of cartographic accuracy (note 5/10). This status may reflect urban transformations that have altered its original environment. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals) in the sources consulted.
