Origin and history

The rural complex of the Berry family, located in Razès, New Aquitaine, dates back to at least the seventeenth century, although a document from 1390 mentions a construction prior to this site. Architectural details, such as accolade arches or ground woodwork, suggest origins between the 16th and 17th centuries. This site reflects the typical organization of a house of rural notables, with a main house body (dining room, living room, kitchen) and functional outbuildings (stable, barn, bakery, pig iron).

The house preserves a room decorated with 17th century woodwork, while the outbuildings, including a dovecote, bear witness to an autonomous farm. The ensemble, registered with the Historical Monuments in 1991, offers a concrete overview of rural life before the Revolution, where social status was translated into architecture and spatial organization. The paved courtyard and the adjoining buildings complete this picture of a preserved rural heritage.

The exact location, 15 Church Street in Razès, Upper Vienna, is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases. Although the address is approximate (a cartographic precision considered "passable"), the site remains a representative example of the Limousin seigneurial complexes, combining noble habitat and agricultural activities under one domain. No information indicates an opening to the public or a current tourist vocation.
