Origin and history

The school complex Notre-Dame "Les Oiseaux" is a private Catholic establishment under contract of association with the State, located in Verneuil-sur-Seine (Yvelines), 35 km from Paris. Founded in 1929 by the Congregation Notre-Dame des Chanoinesses de Saint-Augustin, it occupies an estate including a 12th century castle, renovated in the 18th and 19th centuries, and its park redesigned in English in 1806. The site, purchased by the nuns, now houses more than 3,000 students, from kindergarten to higher education, as well as an American international high school.

The castle, formerly owned by figures such as Alexis de Tocqueville (whose father, Hervé, was mayor) or François-René de Chateaubriand, retains medieval elements (caves, dovecote) and facades classified since 2011. The chapel, built in the 1930s by architect Jactat and decorated by the Mauméjean brothers, is also protected. The park, a former French-style garden transformed in 1806, has been listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage since 2003.

The institution offers bilingual and international education, with specific courses (Cambridge, Dual Diploma) and rare options such as Latin, Greek or Mandarin. He also prepares for BTS and a Bachelor (Bachelor level+3). Its historical heritage, linked to political and literary personalities, makes it an emblematic place of the Yvelines, served by the Line J of the Transilian.

Former students include such personalities as Julie Chapon (co-founder of Yuka), members of the Kyo group, or dancer Marie-Claude Pietragalla. The site, still managed by the founding congregation, combines architectural heritage and educational modernity, while preserving its classified setting.
