Origin and history
The Abbatial Farm of Carpiquet, located in Calvados in the west of the village, was a 14th century medieval building. It depended before the Revolution of the Abbey of the Holy Trinity of Caen, serving in particular for wine-growing activities. Its architecture was marked by a double entrance door, classified as a historical monument in 1928.
The entrance door, an emblematic element of the site, was severely damaged during the Battle of Normandy in 1944. Despite its partial destruction, it demonstrated the importance of abbatial farms in the Norman economy and religious heritage. Historical sources, such as the works of Arcisse de Caumont, mention its role in the local landscape.
Today, although partially destroyed, this door remains a symbol of Norman medieval heritage. Its inscription in 1928 reflects its architectural and historical value, linked to the influence of abbeys in the region before the Revolution. Available data are mainly from Wikipedia, Monumentum and local archives.
