Origin and history
Etal-Berder's tumulus, located in Larmor-Baden, Morbihan, England, is a Neolithic funerary monument. This type of structure, characteristic of this period, generally served as a collective burial and reflects the cultural and religious practices of local prehistoric societies. Its architecture, often composed of stones and earth, was designed to mark the landscape and honour the deceased.
Ranked a Historical Monument by order of 28 October 1960, this tumulus-dolmen (referenced under the G 523p cadastre) illustrates the heritage importance of neolithic remains in Brittany. At that time, local communities lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and fishing, organized around funeral sites and rituals like this one. These monuments played a central role in social cohesion and the transmission of beliefs, while serving as territorial landmarks for successive generations.
