Origin and history
The farm in Brizeaux, Meuse (55) is an emblematic 19th-century building. This monument, whose facades, roofs and bread oven have been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1992, reflects the rural architecture of Lorraine of that time. Its official address, 2 rue de Verdun, places the building in the heart of the village, in an environment marked by the agricultural and artisanal history of the region.
In the 19th century, farms like Brizeaux played a central role in the economic and social life of the Greater East countryside. They were often organised around a set of buildings dedicated to housing, crop storage and agricultural activities, such as bread oven, a key element of family food autonomy. The partial protection of this farm in 1992 underscores its heritage importance, testifying to the construction techniques and rural way of life of Lorraine under the Second Empire and the Third Republic.
