Origin and history

La Ferme du Mont is a farm located in Chevroux, in the Ain department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This monument, classified as historical monuments in 1980, is distinguished by its traditional architecture, including its rectangular buckwheat fireplace, typical of the rural buildings of the region. The building features a rectangular plan with two forebodys on its eastern façade, a ground floor and a soft-slope roof.

The buckwheat chimneys, studied by Gabriel Jeanton in his book The Sarrasines fireplaces (1924), are emblematic architectural elements of the Bressane farms. These structures, often associated with heating or cooking systems, reflect the local construction techniques and agricultural needs of the time. The farm of the Mont, with its preserved characteristics, illustrates the rural heritage of the Bresse and its adaptation to historical agro-pastoral activities.

Classified for its heritage value, the farm includes in its protection all buildings as well as its buckwheat chimney, as specified in the classification order of 9 July 1980. This monument provides a material testimony to the lifestyles and architectural practices in the region, while emphasizing the importance of the conservation of rural buildings in the French cultural landscape.
