Cheminée sarrazine with its mitre : inscription by order of 30 April 1925
Origin and history
La Ferme de Travernay is a farm located in the commune of Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon, in the département of Ain, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is part of the Planons estate, attached to the Bresse departmental museum. This monument is distinguished notably by its sarrazine fireplace, characteristic of the rural architecture of Bressian, whose stump and mitre were protected by a partial inscription as historical monuments in 1925.
The farm illustrates the traditional agricultural heritage of the Bresse, a region marked by a strong rural identity and buildings adapted to local agricultural activities. The sarrazine chimneys, typical of this geographical area, served both as heating and cooking systems, reflecting the practical needs of the farms of the time. Their preservation reflects the importance attached to this vernacular heritage, often linked to the daily life of peasant communities.
Today, the Travernay farm is integrated into a larger museum complex, the Bresse departmental museum, which highlights the history and traditions of this region. Although the information on its current use (visits, accommodation) is not specified in the sources, its inscription in the title of historical monuments underlines its role in the conservation of the French rural architectural heritage.
