The tomb cave (cad. D 678) : classification by decree of 6 April 1970
Origin and history
The sepulchral cave of Feigneux is a funeral monument dated to Neolithic, located in the municipality of Feigneux, in the department of Oise (60). This archaeological site, classified as Historical Monument by decree of 6 April 1970, illustrates the sepulchral practices of this prehistoric period. Its exact location, reported as "7 Sente du Larris Goguet", however, remains marked by a GPS location deemed mediocre (accuracy note: 5/10), reflecting the challenges of its precise mapping.
Neolithic, the period to which this monument is attached, corresponds to a major phase of transition for human societies, marked by sedentarization, nascent agriculture and the emergence of collective structures, including burials. The tomb caves, like that of Feigneux, played a central role in funeral rituals, often linked to beliefs about death and beyond. Their preservation today offers a valuable insight into the lifestyles and social organizations of the communities of the period in Picardia (now Hauts-de-France).
