Feudal motte and Lesquellen camp (Box ZV 7, 88): by order of 2 August 1978
Origin and history
The feudal motte and camp of Lesquellen, located in Plabennec in Finistère, is a medieval vestige typical of the fortifications of this period. This site, classified as Historical Monument, illustrates the local defensive organization in the Middle Ages, with a motte and a camp associated. Its official classification by decree of 2 August 1978 underlines its heritage importance and its preservation by the municipality.
Feudal mottes, like Lesquellen's, were common defensive structures between the 10th and 12th centuries. They served as checkpoints and shelters for local populations, often linked to a lord or village community. In Brittany, these sites reflect a period marked by feudal conflicts and the need to protect territories.
Today, the site is owned by the commune of Plabennec, in the Finistère department (code Insee 29160). Although the practical information on visits is not specified in the available sources, its classification makes it a notable part of the Breton heritage. The GPS coordinates and approximate address (57 Lesquelen, 29860 Plabennec) allow it to be located with satisfactory accuracy.
