Origin and history
La Ferme des Loives is a historical monument located in Roybon, Isère department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Dating from the 4th quarter of the 14th century, it is distinguished by its murals adorning the walls of the attic, a rare testimony of medieval rural art. These frescoes, protected by a classification under the Historic Monuments since 1961, illustrate the heritage importance of the site, although its precise location remains approximate (accuracy level: 5/10 depending on the sources).
At the end of the 14th century, the Roybon region, like much of the Dauphiné, was marked by a rural economy dominated by agriculture and livestock. The farms of that time served not only as places of production, but also as centres of community life, sometimes housing painted decorations with religious or symbolic vocations. La Ferme des Loives, with its preserved murals, reflects this local artistic tradition, often linked to cultural or spiritual practices peculiar to the peasant populations of the medieval era.
These decorative elements, although rare in agricultural buildings, bear witness to know-how and a desire to mark the domestic space or storage of a sacred or protective dimension.
