Origin and history

The Clos Parchet farm, located in Samoëns en Haute-Savoie, is a traditional farm built in 1815. This building, typical of local architecture, was acquired in 1977 by Simone Dechavassine, a Parisian engaged in educational projects. Together with her husband Pierre Dechavassine, she was inspired by the concept of ecomuseum, popularized by George Henri-Rivière in the 1960s and 1970s, to transform the farm into a place to preserve the local agro-pastoral heritage.

The renovation of the farm is carried out according to traditional techniques, while Simone Dechavassine forms with the Guides du Patrimoine des Pays de Savoie and joins the Société des Masons de Samoëns. In 1994, after the creation of Les Amis de la Ferme du Clos Parchet, the site opened to the public with an initial collection of family and local objects, enriched by donations. The acquisition of a nearby farm in 1995 makes it possible to build a dedicated reception space.

The ecomuseum is distinguished by its collection of more than 2000 inventoried objects, all from around Samoëns, offering a coherent testimony of regional agro-pastoral life. The museum is designed for a school audience and organizes guided tours and participatory workshops, facilitated by Guides du Patrimoine des Pays de Savoie. In 2007, the farm was listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage and educational importance.
