Farm (Case C 125): entry by order of 1 April 1993
Origin and history
The fortified Peypoc farm is a rural building built in 1467, during the 15th century, in the town of Auch, Occitanie. It illustrates the agricultural defensive architecture of this period, designed to protect residents and resources from local raids or conflicts. Its closed rectangle plan, reinforced by circular towers at the angles, reflects a desire for security while integrating agricultural and residential functions.
The structure consists of a two-storey house, covered with a three-paned roof, and a building adjacent to a level that once housed stables. The towers, equipped with cannon guns, emphasize its defensive character. Access to the inner courtyard, with a central stone tank, is via a porch. This type of fortified farm was common in areas exposed to tensions, such as the Gers, where it served as a place of life, production and refuge.
Classified under the title of historical monuments by order of 1 April 1993, the Peypoc farm bears witness to the adaptation of rural buildings to protection needs during the lower Middle Ages. Its inscription underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its role in local history. Defensive elements, such as gunboats, recall the risks faced by rural populations at that time, while showing their ingenuity to reconcile security with daily activities.
