Origin and history
Ferrier House is an 18th century historical monument, located at 79 Grand'Rue in Strasbourg. Its present façade was built by master mason Jean Michel Starck between 1764 and 1764, but the house was not completed at his death that same year. The building was acquired in 1776 by Philippe Antoine Ferrier, who added a floor and modified the balcony in 1779, giving the facade its present appearance.
Ferrier House is an example of Strasbourg civil architecture in the second half of the 18th century. Its inscription as historic monuments in 1930 specifically protects its facade, including the balcony, testifying to the heritage importance of this building in the urban landscape of Strasbourg.
The construction and modification of Ferrier House is part of a period of architectural development in Strasbourg, marked by the influence of classical styles. The house, with its decorative elements and structure, reflects the tastes and construction techniques of the time, while integrating into the urban fabric of the Grand'Rue, a major artery of the city.
