Roger Crédot - Researcher in Megalithism Suggested an alignment of stones.

Origin and history

The Menhir des Fichades is a megalithic monument located in the department of Haute-Vienne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This granite monolith, dating from the Neolithic, reaches a height of 3,60 meters and is embedded in the ground on at least 1,50 meters. A search at its base revealed a flint blade, and it is erected near a stream spring. According to Roger Crédot, he would be part of an alignment of five to six stones, today mostly reversed.

The menhir was classified as historical monuments on 4 June 1945. Nearby, about 200 meters to the northeast, is the Bagnol dolmen. Large numbers of flint were collected between these two buildings, suggesting prehistoric habitat in the vicinity. These elements indicate significant human occupation and megalithic activity in the region.

The site is referenced in the Mérimée base under INSEE 87068, and its approximate address is 1 Le Grand Bagnol, 87250 Fromental. GPS location is considered poor accuracy (level 5/10). Menhir has been protected as a classified item since 1945, and its surrounding environment includes other prehistoric remains, reinforcing its archaeological interest.
