Origin and history
The Fountain of Flayosc, listed as a Historic Monument, stands in the heart of the village, on the Place de la République. Built in the 17th century, it embodies the hydraulic and architectural heritage of Provence's Ancien Régime. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 27 January 1926 underscores its heritage value, although its exact location is considered "passable" (note 5/10) in the current databases.
This type of fountain played a central role in the daily life of the provençal villages of the seventeenth century. A gathering point and source of drinking water, it reflected the community organisation around water resources, essential in a Mediterranean climate region. Public fountains were often financed by local municipalities or patrons, serving both as a practical tool and as a decorative element to embellish the central squares.
Today owned by the town of Flayosc (code Insee 83058), the fountain remains a visual and historical landmark in the Var department. Its official address, 1 Place de la République, corresponds to the data of the Merimée database, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate location. No information is available on its current accessibility or possible tourist vocations (visits, rentals).
