Origin and history

The Fountain of Notre-Dame de la Porte is a 15th century monument located in Quintin, in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. It is backed by a former oratory and was sold as a national good during the French Revolution. Its architecture features traces of medieval painting around the niche housing a statue of the Virgin, as well as a tympanum decorated with crawling arches and carved hooks.

In the 18th century, the adjoining chapel was elongated, encompassing the fountain which is from below, accessible by a sigh. The coronation of the fountain lost part of its mess in the early 20th century, and its sculptures were damaged. Despite these alterations, it retains remarkable architectural elements, such as two bell towers at the ends and a floral decor.

Classified as historical monuments by order of 18 March 1913, this fountain illustrates Breton religious heritage. It is now owned by the municipality of Quintin and bears witness to the architectural and historical transformations that have taken place since its construction, particularly during the Revolution and the following centuries.
