Origin and history

The Recollet Fountain is located on Rue des Recollets in Port Louis, Morbihan. Built around 1656, it is contemporary of the neighbouring monastery on which it depended. Its architecture is distinguished by an underground room vaulted in a cradle, accessible by a ramp leading to a paved granite courtyard, which served as a drinking pot. A well is dug against the south wall, and the whole is constructed of local granite, typical of the region.

The fountain was listed as historic monuments on November 19, 1946, recognizing its heritage value. It consists of an external pediment signaling the entrance of the courette below, where the water was drawn. Today, it belongs to the commune of Port-Louis and bears witness to hydraulic engineering and 17th-century religious architecture in Brittany.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its link with the Recollet monastery, a religious order present in the region. Its state of conservation and its precise location (2 Rue des Récollets) make it an important part of the local heritage, associated with monastic history and the public infrastructure of the modern era.
