Origin and history

Villechantria is a monument in the village of the same name, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. This type of construction, typical of rural areas, served both as a water point for the inhabitants and as a place for washing linen. These buildings played a central role in the daily lives of local communities, facilitating domestic tasks and social exchanges.

In the villages of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the fountains were often places of meeting and solidarity. They reflected the collective organisation around water resources, essential for agricultural and domestic activities. Their presence demonstrates the importance of water in structuring rural areas and community life throughout the centuries.
