Origin and history
Masevaux Fountain, located in the Allied Square in the commune of Masevaux-Niederbruck (High Rhine, Great East), dates from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. It was created in 1768 by the entrepreneur Léonard Wippert and the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Sellinger, originally from Merdingen (Brigsau). This monument, in classic style, reflects the local craftsmanship and construction techniques of the time in Alsace.
Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 24 May 1937, the fountain is the property of the commune. Its inscription bears witness to its historic and architectural value. It is part of the tradition of Alsatian public fountains, often placed at the heart of squares to serve as a water and urban ornament.
Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) confirm its precise location at 9 Allied Square, 68290 Masevaux, in the Haut-Rhin department. The fountain remains a central part of the urban landscape, although its GPS location is considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10) according to available data.
