Origin and history

Masevaux Fountain is a historical monument located in the municipality of Masevaux-Niederbruck, in the department of Upper Rhine (Great East). Built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it is distinguished by its cask decorated with putti holding clusters of grapes, although this part was later redone. Originally, she bore the inscription 1768 Schagge Baumeister, attesting to her architect and her date of creation.

Ranked a historic monument by order of 24 May 1937, this fountain is located Place Clémenceau, at the crossing of the streets of Marshal-Foch and Houppach. It belongs to the municipality and embodies the Alsatian architectural heritage of the modern era. Its late Baroque style, marked by carved motifs, reflects the regional artistic influences of the Ancien Régime.

Available sources, including the Mérimée and Monumentum base, highlight its heritage importance. Although its exact location has been discussed (accuracy estimated at 5/10), it remains a historical landmark for Masevaux. His architect, Schagge, is mentioned as a prime contractor, but little additional information on his career is available in the documents consulted.
