Origin and history
The Truchot fountain of Salins-les-Bains is a listed historical monument located in the Jura department, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Built during the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it is located Place des Allies, in the heart of the commune. Its architecture and location make it a central part of the urban space, reflecting the importance of hydraulic developments in the thermal towns of the time.
Ranked by Ministerial Order on August 31, 1992, the Truchot Fountain also includes adjacent streetlights located on the north side of the square. Owned by the municipality of Salins-les-Bains, it is identified in the Merimée database under the code Insee 39500. Its state of conservation and location, noted as "passible" (5/10) in available sources, highlight both its heritage interest and the challenges associated with its preservation.
The fountain is part of a historical context where cities such as Salins-les-Bains, renowned for their saline and thermal springs, developed public infrastructure to meet the needs of residents and curators. The fountains then played a role both practical, providing water, and symbolic, marking the urban space. Their design often reflected the dominant artistic styles of the era, such as 18th-century classicism.
Available data from Monumentum and the internal archives indicate that the Truchot fountain is located at the exact address of 4 Allied Square and the Resistance. Although the sources do not mention a specific sponsor or architect, its classification as historical monuments bears witness to its heritage value.
