Origin and history

Orange Public Fountain is an iconic monument to the city of Orange, in the department of Vaucluse. Built in the 18th century, it embodies the hydraulic architecture of this period, marked by the importance of water points in Provencal cities. Its classification as a historic monument by decree of 22 June 1920 bears witness to its heritage value and its role in local urban history.

The public fountains of the 18th century in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur had an essential function: to supply the inhabitants and animals with water, while serving as a place of sociability.
