Origin and history

Lavoncourt Fort House is a medieval building located in the eponymous village of Haute-Saône. Its construction would date back to 1256, according to available sources, making it an architectural testimony of the middle of the thirteenth century. The site preserves the terrassed and fossilized remains, characteristic of the fortifications of this period.

Classified as historical monuments since 1994, this strong house illustrates the importance of local defensive structures in the feudal context of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. The protected elements include a platform, inscribed by ministerial decree. Its location, at 6 Rue de la Motte, highlights its integration into the historical fabric of the village.

Sources also mention a castral motte associated with the site, studied by researchers such as the University of Lorraine (HISCANT-MA laboratory). This work highlights Lavoncourt's strategic role in the Middle Ages regional defence network. The lack of details about its occupants or its precise use, however, leaves a shadow on its daily history.
