Origin and history

The Fountain of Moissey is a monument located in the municipality of the same name, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Dating from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it bears witness to the architecture and drinking water needs of that time. Public fountains then played a central role in everyday life, serving as a gathering point and supply for the inhabitants.

In the 18th century, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, fountains were often built to meet the growing needs of local populations. They also symbolized technical progress and the beautification of villages. This type of work reflected the importance of water in the social and economic organization of the rural communities of the time.
