Origin and history

The fountain of the Rue de l'Abreuvoir is a historical monument located in the municipality of Besse-sur-Issole, in the department of Var. It was listed as a historical monument by ministerial decree on 24 September 1941. This protection specifically concerns the public fountain, which now belongs to the municipality.

Its exact location is indicated as the rue de l'Abreuvoir, although approximate GPS coordinates are located near Place Noël Blache. Public fountains played a central role in Provencal villages, serving as an essential water point for residents and animals. In Besse-sur-Issole, as in many rural communes of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, these works were often places of meeting and collective life.
