Origin and history
The monument of Frédéric Bapterosses, also known as Jean-Frédéric Bapterosses, was erected in Briare thanks to a subscription initiated by the former workers of the Émaux de Briare factory. This monument pays tribute to Frédéric Bapterosses, a chemist who collaborated with his brother Jean-Félix Bapterosses. It symbolizes workers' recognition of a man who has marked local industrial history.
The monument consists of a bronze bust placed on a base decorated with a medallion representing the two brothers, made by Chapu. The niche, decorated with mosaics, and surrounded by a cast iron grill, add to its artistic and historical character. Since January 2018, this monument has been listed as historic monuments, highlighting its heritage importance.
Located in the square Jean-Frédéric-Bapterosses in Briare, this monument is now the property of the municipality. It bears witness to the region's industrial heritage, particularly linked to the Briare Emal Manufacturing, and to the lasting impact of scientific and technical innovations on local working communities.
