Origin and history
La Fontaine du boulevard Nord de Carpentras is a fountain in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It has been listed as historic monuments since 28 October 1949. Originally, it was located in the town hall, as evidenced by a document dated 1925, where it appears with the Orange Gate in the background.
This fountain consisted of a polygonal basin and a fungus of central water, consisting of a flared hemispherical basin and a curved cone-shaped godronate lid. Four lion-shaped mascarons spit out the water, adding a monumental character to the work. Today, it is located boulevard du Nord, although there are inconsistencies between the addresses mentioned in the sources (Boulevard du Nord and 9050 Avenue Notre-Dame de Santé).
The fountain is owned by the municipality of Carpentras. Although little information is available on its restorations or current use, its inscription as a historic monument underscores its heritage importance. It embodies the architectural and artistic style of Provencal fountains, often designed to combine public utility and ornamental aesthetics.
