Fontaine Cour : inscription by order of 26 May 1926
Origin and history
The Court Fountain is a historical monument located in the commune of Sacquenay, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the seventeenth century, it is a typical example of the public fountains of that time, often linked to the water supply of villages and their social organization. Its architecture and location reflect the practical and aesthetic needs of the rural communities of the Ancien Régime.
Public fountains such as Sacquenay played a central role in the daily life of villages in the 17th century. They served not only as an essential water source for residents and animals, but also as a meeting and exchange place. Their construction was often initiated by local authorities or lords, in a context where access to drinking water was a major concern.
These monuments bear witness to the importance of water in the organization of modern rural territories.
