The façade on the courtyard and the corresponding roof (Box K 330): inscription by decree of 25 October 1965

Origin and history

The building located in the 17 course Georges-Clémenceau in Bordeaux is an emblematic 18th century building, typical of Bordeaux architecture of this time. Its façade, classified as Historic Monument since 1965, is distinguished by three large bossed arcades on the ground floor and a central bay on the first floor, topped by a decorated pediment. A model cornice highlights the elegance of the ensemble, reflecting the know-how of the artisans of the time.

The building illustrates the urbanization and beautification of Bordeaux in the Enlightenment century, when the city, then flourishing port, sees the increase of private hotels and related buildings. These buildings, often intended for a growing merchant bourgeoisie, combine functionality and decoration, as evidenced by the protected elements of this building: the facade on the courtyard and its corresponding roof.

The location of the building, on the Georges-Clémenceau course (formerly during the Intendance), reinforces its historical interest. This course, built in the 18th century, was a prestigious place where local elites settled. Today, although its geographical accuracy is considered to be poor (note of 5/10), the building remains an architectural witness of this fascist era, accessible from the public highway, without any information on its visit or current use being specified.
