Two wrought iron balconies of the Louis XVI period and the masonry platforms that support them: classification by decree of 15 December 1926

Key figures

Bosc - Ironworks Author of balconies and grilles.

Origin and history

This 18th century Toulouse building is distinguished by its structure on five levels and two spans, with descending floors separated by brick cords. The rectangular windows, adorned with crosstowers and central keys, add to its architectural elegance. The ground floor, redesigned, features a stone-stitched door and a rectangular opening, while the façade is crowned by a frieze of metopes and triglyphs.

The left balcony, rectangular in shape, is framed by two Corinthian pilasters with capitals decorated with acanthe leaves and repelled sheet metal. The drum of pilasters, decorated with superimposed oak leaves, is held by a knot at its upper end. The central body of the balcony has a military array (arc, arrows, quivers, torch) bound by a vertical ribbon between bouquets of acanthe. This wrought iron masterpiece, attributed to the Bosc ironmaker, is completed by two grids of the same invoice.

Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 15 December 1926, this building specifically protects its two Louis XVI balconies and their masonry platforms. The ground floor has undergone modifications, including the recoil of the front wall to create a porch, resulting in the installation of a metal beam. The official address, 11 rue Montoulieu-Velane, contrasts with an approximate GPS location at 1 rue Lafayette, reflecting poor geographical accuracy (level 5/10).
