Origin and history

The buildings at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 of rue d'Amboise, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, date from the last quarter of the 18th century. Their architecture reflects the urban characteristics of this period, marked by a densification of the Parisian fabric and a progressive standardization of facades. These buildings, though modest in appearance, illustrate the evolution of bourgeois and artisanal houses in a neighbourhood then undergoing economic and social change.

Classified as a Historic Monument, these buildings saw their facades and roofs on street protected by an order of 11 August 1975. This preservation measure underlines their heritage value, particularly as material witnesses to pre-Hhaussmannian Parisian urban planning. Their location in the 2nd arrondissement, historic merchant and artisanal heart of Paris, reinforces their interest in understanding the spatial and social organization of the city on the eve of the Industrial Revolution.

The accuracy of their geographical location is assessed as "passible" (note 5/10), which can be explained by successive transformations of the Parisian building or by inaccuracies in the old archives.
