Origin and history

The building located at 2 Rue des Abreuvoirs in Perpignan is an emblematic 14th century patriotic house, classified as a Historic Monument. This building illustrates the medieval civil architecture of the region, with facades and interior decorations (like wall paintings) partially preserved. Despite transformations in the 19th century, especially in 1828, it retained most of its original structures, although vertical distributions (scaling, drilling) had been modified to adapt to the norms of the time.

The 19th century changes include adding a pebble mosaic and creating a central vacuum staircase, a unique feature in Perpignan. These developments, although posterior, coexist with protected medieval elements, such as the reprofiled portal. The building was included in the inventory of Historical Monuments by order of 3 August 2001, covering its facades, roofs, and medieval decorations.

The location of the building, in the historical centre of Perpignan (Department of the Pyrénées-Orientales, Occitanie region), reflects its importance in the urban heritage. Its state of conservation and its architectural characteristics make it a rare testimony of the aristocratic houses of the medieval Languedoc-Roussillon, despite a geographical precision deemed "passable" (note 5/10) in the official databases.
