Origin and history

Hotel Ferrier is an iconic building located in Riez, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, this building illustrates the civil architecture of the Provencal Renaissance. It was classified as historic monuments by order of 22 May 1986, thereby recognizing its exceptional heritage value.

The building, originally preserved for its architectural interest, suffered a major collapse on 9 October 2012. This tragic event also destroyed a nearby corbelled house, located at the 3 Grande-Rue, itself a heritage site. These two buildings formed a representative ensemble of the historical building of Riez, marked by medieval and renaissant constructive techniques.

The Ferrier Hotel was located at 1 Grande-Rue, in the old center of Riez, as indicated by the Merimée base. Its classification specifically concerned cadastral plots G 423 to 426 and 429, stressing the importance of its conservation. Despite its partial disappearance, it remains a symbol of the architectural heritage of the Haute-Provence, linked to the urban history of this ancient city.
