Façades and roofs including the return to the rue du Petit-Paon: inscription by order of 8 June 1966

Origin and history

The buildings located in Lille, precisely at numbers 1, 1 bis (formerly rue des Trois-Couronnes), 3, 5, 1ter, and 15 rue du Petit-Paon, constitute an architectural complex whose facades and roofs, including the return to rue du Petit-Paon, were inscribed as Monument Historique by order of 8 June 1966. Their exact location remains subject to poor accuracy (note 5/10), but their heritage value is recognized by the authorities. Lille, a town in the Nord department in the Hauts-de-France region, has undergone urbanization marked by civil and residential constructions reflecting the social and economic developments of the region.

The buildings of that time, often grouped into coherent units, played a central role in everyday life, sheltering both housing, shops and workshops. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the urban organization and lifestyles of the inhabitants over the centuries.
