Land of 4291 m2 constituting the prehistoric deposit known as the White House (C 486, 906, 907, 489, 490, 499) : classification by decree of 26 October 1977
Origin and history
The White House's prehistoric deposit is an archaeological site located in Fontenay-sur-Loeng, Loiret department (Centre-Val de Loire region). This 4,291 m2 land, identified as the White House, is a significant vestige of the Upper Paleolithic period, an era marked by nomadic hunter-gatherer populations. The site was officially recognized and protected by a classification decree under the Historic Monuments on 26 October 1977, covering cadastral parcels C 486, 489, 490, 499, 906 and 907.
The location of the deposit, although documented (2 La Maison Blanche, 45210 Fontenay-sur-Loeng), is considered to have fair accuracy (note 5/10 depending on the sources). This type of prehistoric site offers rare evidence of human lifestyles and occupations during this distant period, where flint tools and traces of temporary habitat are often the main archaeological evidence. Deposits like this play a key role in understanding the migrations and adaptations of human groups to climate change in the late ice age.
The available data, especially from the Monumentum database and the Merimée archives, highlight the heritage importance of the site, without providing details of the artifacts discovered or the excavations carried out. No information is mentioned on public access, any museum or related services (visits, accommodation). However, the 1977 classification guarantees its preservation, protecting it from degradation or modern construction.
