Origin and history
The town hall, justice of peace and school of Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin is a multipurpose building built in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, symbolizing the communal organization of the period. Located in the department of Haute-Saône, it embodies the civil architecture of the Second Empire, with a U-shaped plan and an initial campanile replaced in 1898 by a curvilinear pediment edicle. The interior preserves remarkable elements such as the courtroom of the justice of peace, decorated with panelling and a French ceiling decorated with the coat of arms of the village, painted by Joseph Garret.
The current project, provided in 1866 by architect Adrien Rénahy, is part of a series of three common houses erected by the municipality in the 19th century. The first, prior to 1806, was attributed to Mr.Pambet, while the second, dated 1831, followed Duret's plans. The building, registered as a historic monument in 2005, illustrates the evolution of municipal needs, combining public services, education and justice under one roof. Its slate roof and interior fittings testify to the care taken in its design.
The precise location, 22 avenue des Patis, and its Insee code (70482) confirm its anchoring in the local heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. As a communal property, the main building has been fully protected since 2005, highlighting its historical and architectural importance for Scey-sur-Saône-et-Saint-Albin and its region.
