Calvary at the intersection of the road of Vauconcourt and Grandecourt : classification by order of 18 October 1979

Origin and history

The Calvary of the Vauconcourt Road is a religious monument erected in the 15th century, located in the commune of Confracourt, in the Haute-Saône department. This type of building, typical of Burgundy's rural heritage, served as both a place of devotion and a geographical landmark for travellers and pilgrims crossing the countryside. Ranked as historical monuments by order of October 18, 1979, this calvary illustrates the importance of Christian symbols in the organization of rural territories in the Middle Ages.

At that time, Calvary often marked crossroads or parish boundaries, playing both a spiritual and a practical role for local communities. Their presence also reflected popular piety and the influence of the Church in daily life.
